Message I just want to start by saying that if anyone else here powder coats, I would like to hear your input on what I'm about to write.

First, you are talking about the little plastic vents on the baffles on the undersides of your valve covers. They won't melt, but they do get brittle afterwards to the point you can snap them off with ur fingers.

Another thing I want to bring up are the baffles themselves.

I sandblast everything i powder coat, so when sandblasting valve covers with baffles, a shit ton of sand will get underneath the baffles. Not only that, but I have seen some funked up crap underneath baffles that no one would ever get cleaned without sandblasting it off. You could soak the valve cover in some degreaser but you are not going to get all the funk out.

What I do is grind the baffles off. Sandblast the valve cover. Then weld on some new, aluminum baffles by the areas that need baffles (i.e. pcv holes, breather tubes). If you just leave the baffles off, oil will squirt out of the holes and it gets messy. Not good if you want to satisfied customer.

So my question to anyone is...
What do u do to clean the valve covers? Just degrease them and thats it, or just clean them real good after sandblasting? I would not want to risk sand being stuck underneath the baffles and eventually make it down to the bearings. Sand will obviously destroy the bearings.
